Service Support Fee Explained

At David James Limited, we aim to provide you, our valued customer, with the finest examples.

We work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the vehicles we have displayed are fully prepared prior to sale, with all relevant documentation available at your request. We have robust systems in place to take care of everything for you.

We have listed below details of items covered in the Service Support Fee so that you understand what it entails, and that you are being charged for the right reasons.

All of our vehicles are sourced privately, not from auctions like 90% of other dealers. Our vehicles are collected from source and driven by road back to our site. This allows us to thoroughly road test all the vehicles, and enables us to highlight any issues/imperfections etc. before the vehicle arriving on site. These can be addressed immediately upon arrival and before the sale.

This gives us a huge advantage over our competitors, and gives us the knowledge and understanding of the vehicles history and ownership, which we can pass on to our customer. We ensure that all of our vehicles have excellent service history and two keys are provided.

We believe that this buying process will give you the peace of mind and confidence to deal with David James Limited, knowing that we know the history of every car, and we can confidently and honestly answer any questions about any used car within our inventory.

So many dealers buy a car from an auction, it arrives via transporter on site and isn’t driven before the sale – they have no idea what they are selling, leading to complications, and potentially serious faults…

Service and MOT

Every vehicle is serviced and provided with a clean MOT before sale, giving you the comfort and peace of mind that you can drive off in confidence knowing the vehicle is prepared to the highest standard, and that it is legally compliant.

Whilst the car is used, we do not believe in cutting corners and if we think something should be replaced within our standards, it is.

During our vehicle preparation, we are linked electronically to some of the leading manufacturers including brands such as BMW, VW, Audi and Mercedes. We can also update their system on your behalf.

Many dealers will buy a car from an auction, top up the oil and call it a service and then send you on your way with the balance of an MOT, only for you to find in a couple of months that you face a large bill to get the vehicle through an MOT. At David James Limited, we believe it is imperative your vehicle is thoroughly checked over as we want you to drive away happy.

Courtesy Car

Being without your car if it is in for mechanical issues can be a pain… How can I get to work? Who can pick me up?

David James courtesy cars are normally charged at £10 per day to service customers but are FREE of charge to anyone who has purchased a vehicle from us.

Please state upon booking that you require a courtesy car.

Please bear in mind the insurance cover and use of a courtesy car is subject to age, driving experience and will also take into account any convictions.

Remember where possible to book in advance as courtesy cars are very high in demand.

Fuel For Your First Journey

Nobody likes collecting their new car and thinking “will I make it to the nearest petrol station and where is it”. All cars purchased do tend to have very little or no fuel left in them. As part of the Service Support Fee, we will ensure there is sufficient fuel to turn any warning lights off prior to collection, typically a range of 30 to 60 miles.

Supagard Administration

If you choose to have your paintwork protected using the leading Supagard Paint and Fabric Protection product, we will administer the lifetime warranty of this product, and also take care of any warranty claims you may have during your time of ownership.

AA Breakdown

Upon collection of your new car, we will administer your 12 months complimentary AA Breakdown Policy. All documentation and correspondence will be sent to you directly from the AA, via post and email.

Handover Platinum Valet

Upon the purchase of your new vehicle, we will valet your vehicle and prepare it to the highest standard before your collection.

Warranty Excess Charge

All insurance backed warranty companies charge an excess whenever a customer makes a claim.

Our Warranty company charge an excess fee of £30 per claim, meaning you, the customer, is responsible for this. As part of our Service Support Fee, we cover the excess cost for you regardless of where you are located in the UK.

Service and MOT Reminders

It is easy to forget when your service and MOT is due. At David James Limited we have a dedicated team in place that will send you a reminder in advance via SMS straight to your mobile with details of any special offers we have for you to take advantage of.

It is imperative your vehicle servicing and MOT are kept up to date as failure to do so could lead to the warranty cover becoming void.

£150 Recommend a Friend Referral Vouchers

We want you to enjoy your David James buying experience so much that you tell everyone about us! We are proud to get a huge amount of repeat business and referrals. We appreciate this greatly and want to reward our customers, so we will provide you with three referral vouchers on delivery to the value of £150.

Price Promise

Many dealers will charge you additional fees without demonstrating any value to their customers. Some even promote the fact they charge NO fee but then their vehicles are overpriced!

At David James Limited we are confident that this product together with the competitive pricing of our vehicles gives you, our valued customer, the BEST value for money.

HPI check

We take care of the HPI on your new car as a matter of course, and we also HPI check your part exchange vehicle (should you have one) at our own expense, typically in the region of £10 to £15. You do not need to HPI a car you’re purchasing from us.

When choosing what stock to buy, we go the extra mile and think like you, the customer, carefully checking the vehicles service history, owners and more importantly, carrying out mileage checks at our own expense. If you would like a copy for your records, please ask and we will be more than happy to provide you with one.

Registration Documents / Change of ownership

V5 registration documents are completed by us, again taking out the hassle for you of registering your new car in your name. We also help you with your new car by administering your tax for your new vehicle on site on the day of collection, meaning when you leave, your vehicle is road legal.


We do a great deal of work behind the scenes with our partner finance providers. From negotiating the best rates and bringing additional finance companies on board to make your new car even more affordable.

We process all your finance needs in house rather than using brokers, who will take a percentage of the amount borrowed, and complete all paperwork for your new agreement and settle directly any outstanding finance on your part exchange, taking away the hassle of you having to organise this yourself.

Following the Government announcement yesterday regarding the North East being put into Tier4, unfortunately this means that we must once again close our showroom.

We have however provided our customers with a great online service in the November lockdown and will do this once again until further notice, please see below our opening arrangements.

Our service department will operate as normal following our existing COVID SECURE policies.

Our showroom will NOT BE open to the public with effect from the 31st of December 2020 until further notice. However, our sales team will continue to be at your disposal for any sales enquiries you may have, our phone lines are OPEN and our website is fully functional enabling you to buy or reserve your car online.

We will once again provide an online/virtual car sales process to you so that you can experience the full David James professional service from the comfort and safety of your own home! We will be able to send you videos, talk to you via video, provide detailed video tours of our stock and meet all of your buying needs to ensure you are confident in our virtual buying process.

Our Car sales department will be available, via Phone, Email, Facebook, Website and Autotrader and all other social media and advertising platforms from Thursday 31st December 2020.


Customers can still collect a car which has been purchased either online or via the telephone from our designated “CLICK AND COLLECT” bays at our service department.  All vehicle handovers will take place from a designated exterior handover area and full social distancing practices will be in place to ensure both our staff and customers are safe.

All vehicles will also be supplied with our very own COVID PPE kits containing masks, gloves and sanitising wipes.

Home delivery options will also be available upon request, and all will be handled in a Covid secure manner.
