David James was founded in 2007 with a simple vision: to one day own a dedicated site and build a reputation for selling high-quality sports, performance, and prestige cars.
Our journey began in a small unit on the Vroom car retail park, where we started out selling imported cars priced between £3,000 and £7,000. These were humble beginnings, but they laid the foundation for what was to come.
In 2012, we took a significant step forward with our first independent premises on Flint Street, Benton. We wanted our own identity—somewhere that people recognised us, remembered us, and came back to buy their next car from us, rather than being just another business on a shared multi-site premises.
With a small team of five to six staff, we began to gradually increase the value and calibre of our stock—moving from the £7,000 to £12,000 range, then up to £15,000 vehicles—always with the vision in mind of one day specialising in sports, performance, and prestige cars.
We continued to grow steadily over the following years—until, like many, we were hit hard by the Covid pandemic. It was a hugely testing time for the business. Navigating distance selling, remote communication, and managing operations without in-person contact was a challenge like no other. But it also forced us to adapt quickly—and we emerged stronger because of it. In fact, many of the changes we introduced during that time—such as remote videos, online sales processes, and virtual customer experiences—are now part of our permanent model.
Coming out of the pandemic, we continued to invest and innovate. In 2021, we took the decision to relocate our service operation—previously based at our main David James site—to its own dedicated unit just a mile down the road. This became the David James Service Centre, following significant investment and refurbishment.
In June 2024, we expanded again by acquiring another site: the David James Preparation Site, where every vehicle now arrives and is prepared before being offered for sale.
These expansions have allowed us to refine every aspect of our operation—from quality control to aftersales. We now employ 12 staff across our service department and preparation site, ensuring the highest standards in both vehicle preparation and customer care.
To further improve quality and efficiency, we have also launched our own in-house logistics company, which is responsible for collecting vehicles from source and delivering prestige cars directly to our customers. This has been a game-changer for us. Because the vehicles are collected and driven by our own trusted employees, we know exactly what to look for during the handover. More importantly, by driving cars back to base, we can identify any minor issues early—before the car even reaches the preparation stage—allowing us to address them proactively and ensure every vehicle is fully ready before it’s offered for sale.
In April this year, another major milestone was reached: we purchased our primary site, enabling us to begin stage one of a full showroom renovation.
Upstairs, we transformed the space into a modern boardroom, accounts office, and dedicated workspaces. Downstairs, we reimagined the entire showroom layout—removing traditional desks and introducing sleek sales stations, bar tables, and a peaceful customer waiting area. This move also marked our full transition to a more digital-focused process, with our sales team now working seamlessly from laptops in a modern, open-plan environment.
Today, David James operates across three sites, employs around 20 talented individuals, and proudly specialises in sports, performance, and prestige vehicles priced between £30,000 and £100,000.
With over 2,000 five-star reviews across Google and AutoTrader, and a loyal and growing customer base, the dream I set out with in 2007 has become a reality.
And that’s all thanks to the incredible team around me—whose dedication, passion, and professionalism I am truly proud of.
